11 Tips for Finding the Best SEO Services in Houston

Finding the best SEO services in Houston is not easy. It can really be hard to distinguish one Houston SEO company from another, especially since many of them use the same sales pitch to try to sell you on their services. Houston businesses really need to do their due diligence to find a reliable Houston SEO company that can build a winning campaign.

Here are 11 tips for finding the best SEO company in Houston for your needs.

1. Ask for References and Look for Reviews

The first step in finding the right right Houston SEO company is to ask for references. Most reputable companies will be more than happy to refer you to their past clients. This will allow you to get an idea if the company is doing a good job for past and existing clients. You also want to look for reviews on Google, Yelp, Glassdoor, and even the BBB if available. See how they work with clients. Compare all the pros and cons of working with this company.

2. Evaluate Case Studies to Find the Right Fit

Just because the Houston SEO specialist has satisfied clients doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the right fit. Look for case studies on the Houston company’s website. You want to see that the company has experience in your market or industry. The experience means that they’ll know exactly how to build your campaign the right way. They can avoid a lot of trial and error while also approaching the campaign with an effective strategy.

3. Get an Idea of How They Work with Clients

The best Houston SEO company is one that will work with you to build your campaign. There are a lot of nuances and details that only you will understand about your business. These things can only be learned by working closely with your company. That’s why you want to work with a company that engages with their clients, provides updates, and is open to a dialogue. Some companies would rather put their clients aside because too much interaction gets in the way of the campaign.

4. See If They Future-Proof Your Campaign

SEO is always evolving. That’s why you’ll want to work with a company that focuses on future-proofing campaigns. For example, they may focus on things like voice search, on page engagement metrics, integrating social media for link building, etc. Ask if the company is doing anything to adapt to future changes that their competitors are not doing.

5. Work with a Data Driven Company

The best Houston SEO service provider is one that will focus on the data and not theory. You want to ensure that they track things like which keywords are the most profitable, are always on top of referring keywords/traffic sources, and CTR for your meta description. The data is what helps you make the best decisions in a SEO campaign. A company that doesn’t dig deep enough can only do so much for you.

6. Avoid Companies that Engage in Black Hat Practices

If a company promises you quick results or guarantees a specific result, it’s usually a red flag. There are ways that you can manipulate the algorithm for quick rankings, but they usually don’t last. A big clue that they might be using black hat strategies is if they mention that they use a secret tactic. SEO is pretty straightforward and the magic is in how you execute the campaign, not some secret knowledge.

7. Work with Local Houston SEO Experts

If you’re looking for SEO in Houston, chances are you’re looking to target local customers. A local SEO campaign is different from a normal SEO campaign. That’s why you want to work with a company that really understands how to help you rank for local results and get Houston customers in your area coming in to your business. Yes, both types of campaigns are similar, but the small differences do make a big difference in the outcome of your campaign.

8. Make Sure that They Focus on Content

One of the biggest mistakes that many SEO agencies make is that they overlook content. Content creation like blogging, video production, and infographic design is important as it provides visitors that are looking for specific information with value. It also plays a large role in onpage optimization. And if you want to use content to build links, you have to make sure that they are high quality. It can be really difficult to do well with a SEO campaign without a strong focus on content, so don’t rely on a Houston SEO management service that disregards it.

9. Hire Companies that are Serious about Transparency

You want to make sure that the companies you’re looking at are transparent about the SEO campaign. This means that they should provide you a detailed plan of how they are going to execute your campaign. This should be followed up by a general strategy and specific targets for your campaign. Monthly reporting and general updates should also be given so that you are in the loop with what’s going on.

10. Find a Company that Offers a Competitive Price

Many Houston businesses are working with limited budgets. You need to make sure that you shop around with different companies to get a competitive price. It’s important to remember that the lowest price doesn’t mean the best deal. At the end of the day, you’re looking for value out of your campaign. Some companies will offer discounts for longer term contracts or bundled services, so figure out a way to lower your costs when working with a company.

11. Go with a SEO Company that Offers Other Digital Marketing Services

While you may be looking for the best SEO services in Houston, you should also be thinking about other digital marketing services you may need. For instance, you may want to add social media marketing into your marketing mix in the near future. Rather than working with multiple companies, it’s better to work with one company that offers multiple services. This makes everything cohesive, easy to manage, and reliable.

Following these tips should help you find the top SEO service providers in Houston. If you’re looking for a company that has a proven track record, look no further than Destiny Marketing Solutions. Get an idea of what we can do for you by requesting your free video analysis.

3 Voice Search Optimization Strategies

Voice search is a fast-growing trend in AI. By 2020 ComScore predicts 50% of search will be in natural language. What is natural language? Its the way you talk when having a conversation with friends.

I remember when voice search came out a few years ago it was awkward searching for things and not knowing how to talk to a bot. Fast forward today users are talking to bots like a friend in their natural language.

Ways to optimize your keywords for voice search users are:

  1. Using interrogative words like who, what, when to add context to the specific content users look for.
  2. Use long tail keywords like “What is the average price of 4 ton a/c unit?” is a natural voice search one will do when they are in the last stage of a buyers journey.
  3. Use the keywords mentioned above in your blog title or subtitles to help Google pull your content.

The Influence of Voice Search on Featured Snippets [Infographic]

There is no question that the use of voice search has been on the rise in recent years.

In fact, if you’re reading this, then you have probably have a smart device at home, at your office, or have used one.

It would be amiss to say that voice search has overtaken traditional text search; however, according to Kin+Carta, voice search facilities over a billion searches per month, which is 38x more than ten years ago.

But, it’s not expected to take too long.

In fact, comscore predicts that all searches will be performed via voice by next year.

Taking advantage now could position your website to become more prominent on search engine result pages in the near future via featured snippets.

Featured snippets are the results that are read aloud when you make a voice search. These snippets actually show up above the regular search results and have been referred to as Position Zero.

Further underlining this connection between voice search, featured snippets, and greater organic visibility, check out the infographic below.

3 Ways to Make Your Title Tag Stand Out

The title tag can make or break how many clicks your website gets. What is a title tag you ask? It specifies the title of a webpage in a search result page. Let’s look at  3 ways to make your title tag irresistible to search users.

  1. Numbers – Perform a search query of your target keyword and you will see the old boring text only in title tags. Add a number in your title tag to stand out. For example instead of “Top ways have a successful business in Houston” use “5 ways to a successful business in Houston”. See the difference? We live in “give me information now” society so listing out information is ideal.
  2. Dates – When using a date in your title tag you’re telling the user “I am sooo relevant pick me”. Depending on your industry stay up-to-date by giving current information users can’t wait to read.
  3. Call to Action word – This is my favorite. Users need step-by-step guidance when searching online. When Google gives users hundreds of results, this can lead to information paralysis. Help users by telling them what action to take. Example, a user searching for “small business community in Houston” will most likely click on “small business meeting tonight | Learn more”.

Remember to always test title tags to see what works for your ideal consumers. [Learn More]

Increase Facebook Posts Engagements

Pushing your products or services on every post should be banned. Instead, use an informative approach and try to solve your ideal client’s pain points. Some ways to connect to your audience are:

  1. Feed their needs – Depending on your niche where you would talk about how to fix their pain points.
  2. Use tasty words – tasty words to describe your services or products can make them take a second look.
  3. Ask for their opinion – quizzes or multiple choice questions are always fun.
  4. Sensory words – popular sensory words like Shimmering, crispy, sizzle, staggering are just some that get the job done.

Now get to work on some posts. Just remember every niche is different so test different tactics.[Learn More]

SEO vs. SEM: Which Should Your Business Use?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is optimizing your website to rank organically. Search engine marketing (SEM) uses paid advertising to get traffic with no wait.

If your a Houston business looking for either service here are some reasons choose one over the other. I personally think every artist, restaurant, or fashion shop needs an Instagram page to show off their talent with high-quality images.[Learn More]

13 Topics that Restoration Contractors can Blog About to Become Local Leaders

restoration blogs

Restoration contractors can reach more potential customers and business partners by maintaining a blog on their website. However, some restoration contractors might struggle with coming up with topics to blog about.

Contractors need to choose topics that will allow them to become local leaders in their industry. The following are 13 great blogging ideas that will help contractors achieve a local leadership role in their industry:

Take frequently asked questions from customers and turn them into a blog post

Having a website and blog gives you a great chance to interact with your customers and you’re community. One thing you should be doing on your website is giving website visitors an opportunity to communicate with you. This should include the ability to send in questions that you can answer.

You’re probably going to get some of the same questions multiple time. It’s a good idea to take frequently asked questions from customers and use them as material to create a blog entry. This shows that you’re engaging with customers and catering to their needs.

Provide tips on how to prepare for and minimize damage from natural disasters

You should be offering marketing ideas for disaster restoration if you want to maximize the potential of your restoration contracting operation. Natural disasters are one of the biggest causes of the need for restoration work. Restoration work repairing natural disaster damage needs to reestablish the safety and stability of buildings, so it is essential that this work is executed properly. Providing tips on how to properly restore natural disaster damage properties is a good way to become a local leader in a community.

Showcase past projects that your company has completed

You can fill your blog while promoting your company in a way that interests prospective customers by posting about past projects. You can use your blog as a kind of a portfolio that shows what your company is capable of. This can give website viewers a better idea of what kind of work you handle.

Blog posts showcasing past projects should definitely include pictures and possibly even video content to have the best possible effect. These posts can show how your company handles the restoration process.

Ways to increase the resale value of a property through restoration

Customers will be interested in learning what some of the most cost effective ways are to raise the value of real estate properties. Sometimes, restoration projects that raise resale values the most and are the most cost effective aren’t actually that obvious. You can provide your insight as a leader in the restoration business to give your customers ideas and possibly spark partnerships.

Safety consequences brought on by water damage

Water damage can lead to safety hazards like poor interior air quality and the presence of potentially toxic black mold growth. Water damage can also weaken a property structurally. Customers need to know about safety consequences of water damage so that they have a good understanding of why restoration work is so important for a property.

Advice for negotiating the sale of a property after restoration

Some customers might be concerned that undergoing damage and requiring restoration work might bring down the resale value of certain properties. Customers will then want to know the relationship between restoration work and resale values on properties.

Such a blog topic can ensure that a reader knows how to make sure that restoration work restores property values to what they were before the natural disaster, accident, or malfunction led to the water damage or any other type of need for restoration work.

Detail solutions for water damage issues

There are numerous ways to repair water damage and restore a safe and comfortable interior to a home or other type of property. Some possible methods of restoring water damaged properties include through dehumidifying properties to dry them out or to sanitize them using cleaners. Customers will be interested in how water damage can be repaired and what types of procedures are necessary to restore interiors to the condition they were in before the accident or event.

Be specific about water damage by addressing damage caused by certain sources

Different causes of water damage require different types of work. Water damage caused by a plumbing accident, for example, will require both restoration and plumbing repairs that ensure that the episode will not repeat itself. Blog posts can explore how to respond to various causes of water damage including plumbing malfunctions, natural disasters, and drainage problems on the outside of a structure.

Advice for negotiating the costs of restoration work

A blog post focused on the cost of restoration work can explain what influences that total costs of a restoration project. Pricing is an important issue to consider and one that customers will inevitably want to explore. This blog post can discuss both what drives up restoration costs and what brings them down.

Advice for working with contractors

Customers will want to learn about the procedures of working with contractors. They will be interested to learn about factors like how work is scheduled and how pricing and payments are made. A blog post that provides advice, tips, and basic information about processes of working with contractors will be helpful to those interested in restoration contracting services.

Tips on maintaining properties to avoid damage

Damage requiring restoration work such as water damage can sometimes be avoided entirely through proper maintenance of plumbing fixtures and structural features of a building. Prevention of damage is often less expensive and less problematic than restoration work after the fact. Customers interested in restoration contracting can take an interest in maintenance work that will allow them to avoid further property damage in the future.

Give advice on how water damage can be prevented

Water damage is one of the most costly types of damage a property can experience. It can also often be easily prevented through proper plumbing system maintenance and roofing maintenance that will prevent leakage, for example.

Highlight local events going on currently

Those working as contractors should connect with their community by being aware of what special evens are going on. Whether special events discussed relate to restoration work or not, restoration blogs can help attract a larger audience in their communities by discussing and highlighting local events in some blog posts.

Is Google’s New Ad Redesign A Good Move

For years, Google has been changing its ad format trying to make it look more and more organic. With this latest change, it is unclear whether that has finally hit the mark of what they are trying to achieve.  This new change by Google, however, does not go down well with marketers who question if this change has a self-serving purpose benefitting either ads or brands.

I see it as a win for paid advertising markets since the “ADS” mark is now more blended in with the text. If your using paid advertising versus trying to rank organically you are at an advantage since the first few organic results tend to get clicked on just as often as the first search result. The ads will now be blended which gives many search users peace of mind from all the ‘in your face advertising’ crap. [Read more]

June 2019 Google Broad Algorithm Update: What Business Owners Should Know

Transcript from June 2019 Google Broad Core Algorithm Update:

[00:00:00] Good morning, everyone Leonard Parker here. Hope as we inch closer and closer to the summer. You’re staying cool, wherever you are and just enjoying the good weather and sunshine. So today I made this quick video just to alert everyone business owners here that Google has recently came out with a new update that up. They actually goes live this morning and this is a brock or update or abroad update and basically what this means [00:00:30] is Google they’re changing their ranking algorithm. So that searches that people do on Google returns more relevant results. And this isn’t something new. This is something that Google does several times a year, but just wanted to make this video to kind of give you a heads up on what you should be looking for. If you see longer-term issues then make sure that you’re going to necessary.[00:01:00] Updates to your website now the as I said that update goes live today, but usually, you know after these algorithm updates things jump around for about a week to 10 days. So what I would do by next week, if you do have a website, I would check your rankings and there’s a free tool you can use to do that. I’ll share it here in the YouTube description the video description, but you should also be tracking your [00:01:30] the traffic to your website. So you can do that with Google analytics, which if you don’t have installed on your website, I highly recommend it’s really a must in my opinion. If you expect to get business from your website and Google search console and my take is the more data you have about how people are getting to your website from which channels whether that’s Google being paid ads Facebook, whatever you’ll be better prepared to[00:02:00] Locate the proper amounts for your marketing budget. So highly recommend it. So anyway, let’s say you know, I’m a Houston. I’m IT services company here in Houston will pretend for this example. I’m the owner of Crescent systems. So their IT services company, they provide managed services and today. I’m number three, but let’s say by the end of next week. I noticed that my rank [00:02:30] shifted from number 3 to maybe I’m at the bottom of the first page here, or I’m even on a second page. So honestly, I wouldn’t jump to conclusions just with that window of time but let’s say over time. Let’s say by end of July beginning of August. I still notice that my rankings having rebounded and you know rankings are one thing also, I would look at traffic. So seeing which see how much

Figure [00:03:00] getting from Google Google organic and if that drops for a longer time period so again by end of July beginning of August, then I know there might be some things. I need to update on my website and really the big key here is your content going back to what I said in the video Google does these core algorithm updates to provide the best results for as users and usually the best results are going to be the best [00:03:30] and most relevant content for that search phrase. So if I see that long-term, I traffic is suffering. My rankings are suffering then it would be time to take a look at my website’s content. It might be this might be a sign that it’s time for a refresh. So it Services it’s a industry. That’s always changing. Let’s say I haven’t made any constant updates since 2016. Well, it might be time to make a Content update now. That’s almost three.

Three [00:04:00] full years later, so that would be my recommendation for you again don’t panic. If you notice that your website rankings are dropping or your traffic is dropping but look at the trend over time. And if you do see that that trend is going downward this time to revisit your content. So I will share a few resources share a few resources for you in this video. Just some a few articles that provide more details also share a link [00:04:30] to how to set up Google analytics and Google search console if you don’t already have that installed on your website and as I mentioned earlier, I’ll share a free ring tracking tool. It’s free of charge. And basically this will help you gauge how your website is doing. So that’s the end of the video. Hope that’s been helpful. Have a great rest of your day and week. Take care.

Google Penalties Expert Guide: How to Find, Fix, and Avoid Them

Google penalties

The last thing you want to deal with in your SEO campaign are Google penalties. But it can happen to you if you’ve been fairly aggressive with your campaign. A Google penalty is a manual penalty given by a Google employee after reviewing your site. It is not to be mistaken by a fall in rankings due to an algorithm change. While a penalty will hurt your campaign, it’s not the end of the world. You can definitely recover and continue to get the benefits of SEO.

How to See If You’ve Been with Google Penalties

The first thing you have to do is to make sure that you have a penalty in the first place. If you’re a Houston business owner that doesn’t have much experience with SEO, it can be hard to figure out if you’ve been hit with a penalty or if there was an algorithm change. If you’ve recognized a fall in rankings, then check this Google algorithm update page to see if there were any recent changes.

If there wasn’t anything major that has occurred, then you’ve probably been hit by a penalty from Google. To check what the penalty is, you can login to your Google account and go the the Google Search Console. Simply enter your domain and go through the verification process.

Once you are able to get to the dashboard, you want to go the “Search Traffic” section into lefthand menu options. It will collapse and open more options. From there, you want to click on “Manual Actions”. This will give you a list of manual actions that your site has been hit with.

Different Types of Penalties Houston Businesses May Face

There are various types of penalties that you may face as a Houston business owner. You’re likely to see more penalties if you or your SEO has been using black or grey hat SEO techniques which are SEO exploits that Google frowns upon. Sometimes it might be just a technical error on you or your webmaster’s part. Here are some examples of the penalties and how to recover from them:

  1. Cloaking or Redirects

Sometimes you may want to show Google one page while showing your visitors another page for the same URL. This is something that many affiliate marketers do to attain high search rankings while also managing to convert more visitors into sales.

To fix this issue, crawl your site with the Search Console and compare the pages that are provided to you with the cloaked pages. Fix any inconsistencies between the two. Sometimes the problem stems from sneaky redirects that try to trick the visitors. After fixing the issues, submit a reconsideration request.

  1. Thing or Low Quality Content

Google has gotten better about low quality content. They’ve been able to detect spun, scraped, and auto generated content created by various software programs. They also look for content that are duplicates. The latter can often happen by accident if you’re copy and pasting manufacturer product and sales descriptions on an eCommerce site. To fix this problem, simply remove the low quality content from your pages.

Blogging is a must, but there’s no point creating content if you’re creating low quality material. If your content is original but is still getting flagged, rewrite them by adding more useful content that is valuable to your target audience. You’ll also want to make your content longer to increase the quality and increase your ranking prospects.

Use tools like Copyscape or its lower cost alternatives to see if you’ve accidentally posted duplicate content on your site. After the fixes are made, submit a reconsideration request.

  1. Keyword Stuffing or Hiding Them

An old SEO strategy that people have used is to stuff their pages with keywords at the very end for an onpage optimization boost. They may also use hidden text by blending it with the background color (white) to keyword stuff. While hardly nobody uses this strategy anymore, it may be triggered by things like WordPress themes and free templates that try to link back to the developer’s site. Remove any onpage black hat tactics or tricky redirects then submit your site for reconsideration.

  1. Links from Bad Neighborhoods

If you’ve been aggressive with your link building campaign, then you may have gotten backlinks from a bad neighborhood. Sometimes this can be caused by unnatural link building (reciprocal links, bought links, low quality guest posts, etc.) dubbed as the Penguin penalty. This is one of the more common violations and search engine spam penalties business owners see. Google recommends that you disavow backlinks that have have been flagged by Google.

In the Search Console, go to the disavow links page to disavow low quality links.

  1. Hacked Sites

An issue that many people don’t expect is their site getting hacked. Many times you won’t even know that your site was hacked because nothing is changed. Hackers simply add malware, bad redirects, and malicious links onto your page. These hacked sites are detected by Google and users are prevented from viewing them for their safety. These hacks are usually done through WordPress exploits.

Figure out how to get rid of the hacks. Then update your WordPress to prevent it from happening again. You’ll also want to get plugins that that prevent hacks from happening in the first place. After you’ve worked with an experienced webmaster to fix the issue, you’ll want to submit a reconsideration request.

These are some of the more common penalties, but there are still a handful of others that you may face along the way.

How Long Does a Google Penalty Last?

After you’ve fixed the penalties, you’re probably wondering how long it will be until the penalties are removed. There’s no specific timeframe on when the penalties will be removed, but you can expect your site to be updated within 30 days. If you’ve incurred some serious offenses by partaking in black and grey hat strategies, you’ll probably have to wait a lot longer to get the penalties removed.
